Longest Day

Longest Day

More minutes to pirouette
upon this illuminated stage,
another sonnet rhyme to write,
a prolonged melody to sing
these moments
when the sky is a silken sheet
of cyan pale —

O Summer!
I am bewildered by the calm of palms
rested upon my knee,
absence of shoulder shivers,
your fragrant warmth embraces me
like a prismatic pashmina
while I wander through grass and flowers
of field and forest —

Give me these hours
while the albescent sun
hovers
over tallest mountain peaks,
let me drink of the madness of colors,
scarlet wine of roses,
tea green leaves,
punch of hibiscus pink,
pineapple,
purple grape —

When I have quenched my thirst
and the laughter fades into a silent smile,
let me bask just a little bit longer
in lambent daylight
before the shortest hours of twilight
hasten to arrive.

  1. “…your fragrant warmth embraces me

…prose at its finest, D. Lovely!

  2. This is great. It reminds me of that little Garden way back when, when all was good. It hearkens back to the goodness of the Lord’s original and all the love He put into it. How far we have fallen. It is no wonder the Lord considers friendship with this world to be enmity against Him. Maybe the beauty and splendor of His perfect original is too much to even imagine for many. But I would rather long for it and do look forward to it when He restores all. In the meantime His original can still be found in a great many places out in the natural world and we can be most thankful for that, but also and especially in the tender hearts of those seeking Him because He is the greatest expression of love and beauty there is. All praise to the Lord Jesus. He is wonderful Creator. Thank you Dee, and Blessings

    1. Thank you, RJ. I am humbled that this poem reminds you of the little Garden when all was good and beauty was at its purest with the Lord’s original creation. The Lord Jesus when He was on earth marveled at how people were so concerned about what they should eat and what they should wear, and directed them to consider the lilies of the field and the birds of the air which our Heavenly Father looks after. How much more shall He look after us. And therefore the ages-long concern for food and drink and clothing grows rampant, especially these days, and part and parcel of the “love for the world”.

Amidst all the marvels of God’s wonderful creation, the loveliness of nature, Jesus is indeed the greatest expression of love and beauty there is. Thank you, RJ for the deeper insights about the Lord and His creation.
